William Stanley Karwan, age 69, passed away at his home in Dothan, surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, December 26, 2017.

He was born on January 17, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Joseph and Nona (St. Peter) Karwan. William, affectionately referred to as “Bill,” attended high school at Saint Benedict High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was later stationed at the Fort Rucker, AL base, which is when he met his bride-to-be, Beverly Ann Brown, who was attending Troy University nearby. Bill was often awarded “Soldier of the Month,” which gave him time off from his weekend duties in order to visit Beverly. They wed March 20, 1971 and later had a daughter, Kasee. Bill was a long-time employee of General Telephone Electric (GTE) and after retiring there, he worked part-time at Solomon Chevrolet. He was a long-standing member at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Dothan and assisted over the years with the music production and ministry. Bill was often seen with a smile and he enjoyed telling a joke or sharing a funny story with others. He really enjoyed talking about his grandson and “little buddy,” George. Bill was an avid marksman and enjoyed spending time at the Headland Gun and Skeet Club and the Ft. Rucker Skeet Club with friends while shooting.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Nona Karwan; brother, Shawn Karwan; and his father-in-law, George Brown.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Beverly; daughter, Kasee Karwan Story (Roger); grandson and little buddy, George; brothers, Michael and Christopher Karwan; mother-in-law, Sara Helms Brown; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 29, 2017 at 2pm at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, 1231 Fortner St., Dothan, Alabama with Reverend Tim Willis, Reverend Ray Jones, and Dr. Johnny Fain officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm until 1:45 pm at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Music Ministry of Ridgecrest Baptist Church or your local Animal Shelter or Humane Society.
