Mrs. Alberta (Bobbie) Brown Davis passed away on June 17th, 2016 in New Iberia, Louisiana.  She was 98 years young.

Mrs. Davis was a former long time resident of Dothan where she lived with her husband, Rev. A.J. (Jack) Davis until his passing in 1999, and later resided in the Baptist Village Retirement Community.  She was a long standing member of Selma Baptist Church in Dothan.

Born in Cottondale, Florida on May 10, 1918, she was the youngest daughter of Joseph Brown of Marianna, Florida and Georgia Smith Brown of Midland City, Alabama.  After losing her mother at age 3, she was raised with her uncle, Mr. Turner Smith, and many cousins on their farm near Donaldson, Georgia, where she went to school and worked on the family farm.  She never passed a cotton field without saying, “Oh, my aching back.”  And then she’d smile.

She later lived in the Bronx, New York with her first husband, Martin Matchkus, and their children until moving to Panama City, Florida, to be near her father and sister, Mrs. Edna Sauls.

It was there that she was introduced to her husband and life partner, Rev. Jack Davis, a widow and father from Graceville, Florida.  They were married on February 11, 1961, and set about building a long and beautiful – although often times trying - life together.

Mrs. Davis leaves behind a blended family of 6 children, 21 grandchildren, and a host of great and great great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Note to Heaven:  Our Mother walked this earth for 98 years with the graceful humility of your grandest angel. If you would be so kind as to accommodate her in like fashion in her new home, we would be forever grateful. Oh, and if You please, give her a five pound box of Whitman’s Chocolates and tell her we’ll be along to collect it.  She’ll understand.
