Debbie Jane Sormrude of Samson, Alabama went to her heavenly home on August 2, 2017, at the age of 64.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Samson, Alabama with the Rev. Sam Totten and Rev. Charles Myers officiating.  Burial will follow in the Travelers Rest Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be at the Church on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continue until service time.

Mrs. Sormrude was born March 19, 1953 to the late John D. and Birdie Peters Adams at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.  She had a devoted love of Christ.  She was a loving and supporting wife, mother and MawMaw who loved them with all her heart.  She enjoyed being involved in local politics.

Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Samson, Alabama’s youth group.

She was preceded in death by her parents John D and Birdie Adams and Paternal and Maternal grandparents.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Royce C. “Yogi” Sormrude, her children; Rhonda Cleghorn (Martin) of Andalusia, Alabama, Brandi Long (Chip), Andalusia, Alabama and Erik Sormrude (Nicole) of Defuniak Springs, Florida, nine grand-children; Brett and Tori Cleghorn, Madison and Meagan Long, Rylee, Ava, Emma, Kynlee and William Sormrude,  one brother and one sister,  a host of special cousins and friends.

The family wishes to thank all of her health care providers that helped during her  illness.
