Mrs. Eulalene Butler (née Sanders), died after a short illness at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama on January 24, 2017.


Born on September 7, 1925 in McKenzie, Alabama to parents Leon and Lena Mae Parker Sanders, she was 91 years old and the the oldest of 3 daughters.


Eulalene attended Murphy High School in Mobile. On December 31, 1942, she married James William (J.W.) Butler of WhyNot, Mississippi. They made their home in Jackson, MS where Eulalene worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for her husband’s business, L & A Products.


Eulalene and J.W. became the parents of 2 daughters and 1 son. They lived in Jackson until 1995 and were very active members of Alta Woods Baptist Church. After moving to Dothan, Eulalene became a member of the Powell Brewton Sunday School class at First Baptist Church. She often volunteered at the church’s Clothes Closet.


Survivors include: sister Mary Watson of Mobile, sister and brother-in law Patricia and James Russell, also of Mobile, daughter Karyn Box of Clinton, MS, son and daughter-in-law Dr. James and Mrs. Ann Butler (née Wells) of Dothan, AL (formerly of Jackson, MS), and son-in-law Bill Wohler of Hattiesburg, MS. Surviving grandchildren are: Michael Box and wife Leigh (née Aden), Angela Box, James Wohler, Amy Wohler Norris, Dr. Megan Butler and husband Charles Reese, James Butler, and Haley Butler. Survivors also include 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


Eulalene is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, her oldest daughter, Lennie Wohler, brother-in-law Louis Watson, and son-in-law Tom Box.


Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS. Officiating at the 2 p.m. funeral will be the Rev. Don Hicks. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Cemetery.
