Mrs. Frankie Marie Hardwick, 87, died Monday, April 30, 2018 at Noland Hospital. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Dothan City Cemetery (Lane 2) with Mr. Harrison Parrish officiating and Kendall Glover directing. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

Mrs. Hardwick was born in Belmont, MS and raised in West Point as her father worked for the TVA. She was her high school’s Homecoming Queen (her sons teased her that she beat out the other girl). She was always our Homecoming Queen.

While working for Civil Service at Ft. McPherson, GA, she met Charles F. Hardwick serving in the National Guard.  He took her to the Varsity for their famous hotdogs on their first date. They married in 1952 and began life together in Dothan. Two years later they had a son, Fred, four years later, little brother Steve. Family life was enriched by a steady procession of pets, parakeet, cat, dogs leading to mischievous Corgis and a genius potbelly pig, Dee.

Frankie's boys were the light of her life as were her grandchildren. She loved bridge and dancing. When music played, she swayed and would dance at the drop of a hat.

Frankie retired from Ft. Rucker where she worked with words, editing manuals of all sorts, including survival for soldiers in Vietnam.

Frankie Hardwick loved everybody and all God's creatures great and small. She walked strong in her Christian faith, even when she could no longer walk.  She was the epitome of kindness.

Mrs. Hardwick is predeceased by her parents, Frank Hubbard and Pauline Haygood McKinney; her husband, Charles Frederick Hardwick, Jr. and a brother, John Ellis McKinney. She is survived by two sons, Charles Frederick Hardwick III and Michael Steven Hardwick, both of Dothan; three grandchildren, Michael Scott Hardwick, Mary Hannah Hardwick and Charles Steven Hardwick, all of Dothan; a brother, Paul Eddie McKinney (Darlene) of Florence, AL.

The family deeply thanks Sharon Britt, Donna Glover, Essie McLeod, Janice Bounds, Harrison Parrish, Jenny Culbreth, Dr. Frank Crockett, Julie Blankenship, AlaCare Home Health and all other caregivers for their loving care of Mrs. Hardwick.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Wiregrass Angel of Hope, c/o SunSouth Bank, P O Box 1910, 36302.

Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements.  (334) 699-3888.  Please sign the guestbook on line at www.gloverfuneral.com.
