Mrs. Jean Merritt Collins, age 84, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017 while residing at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle, Dothan, AL.


Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Pat Andrews and Reverend Coley Holloway officiating.  Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.


The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to the services at Glover Funeral Home Chapel.  The family will be accepting flowers.


Mrs. Collins was born June 1, 1933 in Geneva County, AL, to the late William Wilson and Ida Nora Howell Merritt.  She attended Malvern Elementary School and graduated from Slocomb High School.  She was employed with the Warner’s Hosiery Mfg. in Dothan and later attended Wallace College School of Cosmetology.  She was a licensed cosmetologist for 43 years, owning her own salon, Jean’s Styling Salon in Malvern and then moving her salon to Dothan where she later retired due to failing health.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 21 years, Billy Ray Collins; her sisters Martha M. Bryan, Mary M. Ezekiel, Naomi M. Baggett, Hazel Marie Merritt; her first daughter, Emily Jean M. Myers; several nephews and extended family.


Survivors include her daughter, Denise (Wayne) Trawick; 2 step-sons, Steve Collins of Slocomb and Mike Collins of Slocomb, sisters, Sarah Mandile, Jimmie (Charlie) Brigandi; 3 grandchildren, Hope (Blake) Kirkland, Alexa and Adam Roney; 2 great grandchildren, Layne and Addyson Kirkland; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.


May all healthcare workers be blessed for the wonderful care she was extended during her years of failing health.


 Pall bearers will be Rick Nehls, Jimmy Driver, Blake Kirkland, Wayne Trawick, Merritt Ezekiel and Phillip Watts.


For God so loved the world, he needed another Angel.
