Mrs. Margaret Anne DeVaughan Edgar, a resident of Ozark, died Thursday, April 4, 2019. She was 82 years old.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 7, 2019, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Reverend Billy Cardwell and Reverend Donnie Holley officiating.  Interment will follow in Old Tabernacle Cemetery in New Brockton, Alabama, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Sunday from 12:30 P.M. until service time.


Mrs. Edgar was born March 1, 1937 in Slocomb, Alabama to the late Wesley Hugo DeVaughan and Irene Cox DeVaughan. She graduated from New Brockton High School in 1955. She received a Bachelor’s Degree from Tift College in Georgia and began her teaching career in Calhoun County, Florida and Jackson County, Florida. Later she became involved in homebound special-needs children.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Bruce DeVaughan and one brother-in-law, Richard M. Deraney.


Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Jerry Wilburn Edgar of Ozark; one daughter and son-in-law, Marcella Faith and Mike Scurlock of Cottondale, Florida; one son and daughter-in-law, David Marcus and Becky Edgar of Butler, Alabama; two sisters, Ginger DeVaughan Deraney and husband, Vern Bassham of Fayetteville, Georgia;  Kathy and Donnie Holley of Pinellas Park, Florida; grandchildren, Terry Edgar, Tara Edgar, Scotty Scurlock, Marcus Edgar, Cody Scurlock, and Randi Smith; great grandchildren, Callen Scurlock, Cannen Scurlock, Tyler Blackburn, Carsen Scurlock, Blakely Smith, and WesliAnn Smith. Nieces and nephews also survive.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Old Tabernacle Cemetery Fund, 19548 Hwy 167, New Brockton, Alabama 36351; or to Gideons International, P. O. Box 291, Ozark, Alabama 36361.
