Obituary: Mrs. Mary L. Peel


 


Mrs. Mary L. Peel of Slocomb went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Westside Terrace Health & Rehabilitation CenterShe was 88. 


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m.  on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Slocomb with Rev. Dicky McAllister and Rev. Allen Leach officiating.  Interment will follow in the Memory Hill Cemetery. 


The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 until service time. At all other times the family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Peel’s daughter, Dianne, 226 East Cox Street, Slocomb. 


Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, 1314 Westgate Parkway, Suite 2, Dothan, AL 36303. 


Mrs. Peel was born July 9, 1928 in Houston County to the late Johnnie C. and Mary Ethel Everett Stephens. Mary and Paul lived in Slocomb all of their married life. They worked side by side many years in Peel’s Grocery. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, fishing and working outside in her yard. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother who will be dearly missed. 


In addition to her parents, her husband of 61 years, William "Paul" Peel; and a son, William "Bobby" Peel; two brothers: Herman Stephens and Hershel Stephens preceded her in death. 


Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Peel Tew;  four grandchildren: Kim Woodham (Terry), Kay Battle (Donald), Dwayne Tew (Jill) and Bart Peel (Misty); eight great grandchildren: Courtney Maertens (Jason), Alyssa Shiver (Micah), Garrett Woodham, Amy Woodham, Julia Peel, Ruby Peel, Audrey Peel and Daniel Tew; great-great grandchildren: Bryant Battle, Tristan Maertens, Asher Maertens and Kadon Shiver; sister, Laura Heath (Ray); brother, David Stephens (Maggie); daughter-in-law, Sandra McAllister Peel; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.  


The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thank you to Mrs. Peel’s family and friends, Dr. John Wessner, the staff and management of The Terrace at Grove Park, Westside Terrace Rehabilitation Center, the staff of Kindred Hospice, Anointed Touch Caregiver Service and Dothan Companion Service for the love and care they provided to Mrs. Peel during her illness.
