Mrs. Nellie Hudson Rodgers, age 88, of Dothan, passed away Sunday June 5, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Rodgers; her parents, Ellie Horton Hudson Campbell and Virgil Frank Hudson; her son-in-law William Edward Ludlum, and three older sisters, Frances Hudson Shirley, Cecile Hudson Brock, and Sarah Hudson Nelson.


She is survived by her daughters, Martha Rodgers Cooper (Robert) and Nancy Rodgers Ludlum – granddaughters, Lee Ludlum Shaw (Paul) and Elizabeth Ludlum – great grandchildren, Jackson Edward Shaw, Elizabeth Jane Shaw and Evelyn Lee Enfinger – brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Sara Hudson and sister-in-law, Mrs. Honey Rodgers, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Rodgers, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at First United Methodist Church 1380 W. Main St. Dothan, AL. 36301 with Rev. Wes Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.


The family will be receiving friends at First United Methodist Parlor on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. prior to services. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church In Christ Name Fund.


Nell was born on October 9, 1927, in Oneonta, Alabama. She grew up in Oneonta and Boaz, Alabama. She worked for many years at Carolyn Coe’s House of Fashion in Dothan. Upon retiring, she spent much time at the beach with her family. Nell loved the sun, sand, and water and walked many miles on the beach. Nell was well known as a great cook, having featured recipes in the State of Alabama cookbook. She made especially fine candy, delicious smoked turkeys, and exceptional cheese straws. Nell was an excellent seamstress. She was a very strong woman having lived by herself for forty years. For the last 16 years, her constant companion was her beloved dog, Buffy.


Nell was a member of First United Methodist Church in Dothan for over fifty years and served on the finance committee, the bulletin guild, and was an active member of the Fellowship Onyx Smart Sunday School Class.


Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements.
