Mrs. Sybil Theresa Bell Kapica, formerly of Dothan, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center in Whiteville, NC. She was 93.


Born September 24, 1923 in Orrum, North Carolina to the late Lee Andrew and Emma Pearl Register Bell, Sybil was raised in Midland City and Dothan, Alabama. While working at the Dothan Hosiery Mill in 1945 she enlisted in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corp. Stationed in Hawaii as a radio technician she met a young marine that was the love of her life for 34 years, “Kappy.” Married September 6, 1947 in Las Vegas, NV, Kappy and Sybil settled in Orlando after several military moves and this is where she later retired from the Civil Service in 1972. A final move together in 1978 brought her back home to Dothan. Sybil loved sewing and working in the yard.


In addition to her parents, Sybil was preceded in death by her husband, Ret. MGySgt. Henry JE Kapica; her brothers, Howard Bell, Rev. Ralph Bell, and Captain “Cap” Bell; and her sisters, Florine Bell Kelly and Juanita Bell Hoffman.


Survivors include her son, Michael (Lavern) Kapica of Milton, FL; her daughter, Susan (John) Grabusky of Whiteville, NC; her grandchildren, Laura (Jacob) Cox of Marietta, GA, John Grabusky of Boone, NC, Stephanie Grabusky of Newton, NC, and Adam Grabusky of Burlington, NC; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews she dearly loved.


Graveside services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Memory Hill Cemetery with Rev. Randy Stumbaugh officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 PM until 2 PM, prior to the service.


Serving as pall bearers will be John Grabusky, Adam Grabusky, John Hoffman, Tom Hoffman, George Digby, and Jacob Cox.


The family will be accepting flowers or contributions may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center, 206 Warrior Trail Road, Whiteville, NC 28472.


There will only be one Sybil – mother, grandmother, aunt, friend. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
