Mrs. Velinda E. Smith of Dothan passed away Monday, May 16, 2016. She was 88.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Tabernacle United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.

 

The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 P.M. Thursday, May 19, 2016, one hour before the service. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Tabernacle United Methodist Church Building Fund.

 

Mrs. Smith was born March 7, 1928 in Geneva County to the late Harmon and Effie Eddines. She attended schools in Samson where she resided until 1945. She and her husband Harlan Ray Smith owned and operated H.R. Smith Tractor Co. She also worked in floor covering for several years.

 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Harlan Ray Smith, brother-in-law Thaxton Smith, a daughter Debby Hasty, three sisters; Marie Whitehead-Abbeville, Merline Love-Daleville and Jimmie House-Dothan, also a brother Horace Eddines-Hattisburg, MS.

 

Her survivors include; daughter Susan Dorriety, a sister Paula Shera Green-Atlanta, GA; a brother-in-law Bill House all of Dothan, grandsons Ty Chailland and wife Heather-Taylor, Willie Dorriety and wife Shana-Slocomb, Cameron Hasty-Texas, greatgrandsons Harlan Dorriety, Jordan Chailland and great-great-granddaughter Kassie Chailland.

 

Pallbearers will be Ty Chailland, Willie Dorriety, Steven Smith, Jordan Chailland, Geary Dismukes and Randy Clark.
