Ms. Peggy Jelene (nee) Gilbert Smith McCleskey of Montevallo Alabama, formerly of New Site and Dothan, Alabama passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on June 29, 2017.  Ms. McCleskey was born January 28th,1948 in Alexander City, Alabama to Margie Oliver Gilbert Smith and James Foy Gilbert.  She grew up in New Site Alabama and graduated from New Site High School.  She attended Alexander City Junior College and later relocated to Dothan Alabama where she worked for many years with Tri-State Plant Food. After moving to Montevallo, she became a much-loved member of University Baptist Church.  She enjoyed serving her Lord, family and friends.  She is survived by a son Ronald Keith (Angie) Smith of Holtville Alabama, daughter Kelli Christine Smith of Dothan Alabama, three beloved grandchildren: Alexander Christian Dykes of Dothan Alabama, Kale Oliver (Jessica) Smith of Newnan Georgia, Katelyn Smith (Chris) McCrane of Jacksons Gap, Alabama, and Donald Caleb Smith of Troy, Alabama; two great-grandchildren: Charlie and Maverick McCrane. Sisters: Cleta Gilbert (Vince) Halverson of New Tazewell, Tennessee and Miramar Beach, Florida, Regina Cotton (Ralph) Bryan of New Site, Alabama, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.  Jelene enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, reading, gardening and worshiping at her church. She had a fondness of music and old movies.   She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents Horace and Zelda Mae Oliver of New Site and Iva Gilbert of Columbus, GA.  As per her request Ms. McCleskey will be cremated and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
