HEADLAND. . .Neil Rister, a resident of Headland, died late Thursday afternoon, August 31, 2017, at his home. He was 93.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 3, 2017, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Phil Collins officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in Blackwood Church Cemetery with James Lee Hinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary.      


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Blackwood Church, c/o Betty Jean Chancey, 2211 County Road 83, South, Headland, AL 36345.
            Mr. Rister was a lifelong resident of the Blackwood Community of Dale County, son of the late Webster Lee Rister and Lily Pastoria Brackin Rister. He served his country with the paratroopers in the U. S. Army during World War II and later served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Rister was a member of the first class in sheet metal at Wallace Technical College. He was employed for thirty-five years with private contractors and retired from DynCorp, all at Ft. Rucker. Mr. Rister was a member of the Blackwood Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Neil Rister, four sisters, Quintalene Rister, Lois Branch, Mildred Hinson and Giscene Weaver, and two brothers, Maurice Rister and Philemon Rister.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Patsy Ruth Wicks (Pat) Rister; two daughters, Cindy Rister Lasseter (Pete), and Lisa McGriff (Lan), all of Headland; a sister, Ella Verna Givens (Ralph), Headland; two grandchildren, Ashley Bonner Ried (Chris), and Savannah Bonner.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Julius Givens, Mark Givens, Myron Johnson, John Kennedy, Josh Lindsay, and Joshua Stevens.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to the neighbors and friends of the community, especially, John and Ramona Kennedy and to Covenant Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Rister during his illness.
