Mr. Jack Wyman Byrd, 80, of Ozark, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at his home after an extended illness surrounded by his family.


Funeral services will be 2:30 P. M. Friday, June 9, 2017, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Reverend James Bell officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends Friday in the church from 1:00 P. M. until service time.


Mr. Byrd was born November 10, 1936 in Coffee County, Alabama to the late James Otis Byrd and Voncile Crumpler Byrd. Mr. Byrd served in the United States Army Reserves, retiring following twenty years of service.  He worked as an aircraft mechanic with various aircraft maintenance contractors at Fort Rucker for forty-four years until his retirement in 1999.  Mr. Byrd was a member and Deacon of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he enjoyed driving the church bus for many years.  He enjoyed worshiping with the children during Vacation Bible School every year.  He was a volunteer with Marley Mill Fire Department. 


Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Christine Langford Byrd of Ozark; two daughters and one son-in-law, Amy Ferry of Blakely, Georgia and Angie and Andy Wood of Dothan; two grandchildren, Nicholas Ferry (Melanie) of Dallas, Georgia, McKenzie Ferry of Blakely, Georgia; one great grandchild, Norah Grace Ferry; one brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Mary Ann Byrd of Enterprise.



The family would like to express a special thanks to Community Hospice for their excellent care and support during this difficult time. A special thanks also to his sitter, Penny.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Youth Building Fund, 1124 County Road 11, Ozark, Alabama  36360.
