Obituary from Holman Funeral Home and Cremations – Ozark, AL


 


Mr. John D. “J. D.” Strickland, 94, of Ozark, joined the heavenly choir Saturday, September 17, 2016, in Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center.


Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Monday, September 19, 2016, at Asbury United Methodist Church with Reverend Tara Chamblee and Reverend George Green officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 12:30 P.M. until service time.


Mr. Strickland was born June 20, 1922 in Ozark, Alabama to the late Harmon Matthew Strickland and Hettie Bottoms Strickland.  He served in the United States Army and retired from Civil Service.   J. D. enjoyed fishing, farming, hunting, church, music, and family.  He was a lifetime member of the Masons, Clinton Lodge #287 in Skipperville, Alabama. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Bessie Rebecca Hughes Strickland; and his grandson, James Bradley “Brad” Strickland, both in 2009.


Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Gloria Strickland,  Lanier and Paula Strickland all of the Asbury Community; two grandchildren, Dedra Garrey (Charlotte) and Erin Strickland; two great grandchildren, Colby and Matthew Rowell; and one sister, Anna Myrl Snell.


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 2536 County Road 33, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
