Obituary from Holman Funeral Home and Cremations – Ozark,AL



Mrs. Emily Kathyrn Stevens Hinderliter, age 69, went to meet our Heavenly Father on Wednesday June 8, 2016, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center CCU.


A memorial service for Emily will be held Sunday, June 12, 2016, at 3:00 pm in Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dothan with Reverend Clint McBroom officiating, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Sunday at the church beginning at 2:00 pm.


Mrs. Hinderliter was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 17, 1946, to the late George and Frances Stevens. She graduated from Carroll High School in Ozark in 1965 and later received her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Troy University.


Emily dedicated her life to serving others through various agencies including the Department of Pensions and Security in Ozark, Floyd Jr. College in Rome, Georgia and Wiregrass Rehabilitation in Dothan. After retiring from the workforce, Emily continued her service to the community by volunteering in various programs including Celebrate Recovery, Harbor Church, Community Corrections Bible Studies and Herring House. A lifelong Methodist, Emily was an active Lay Speaker at Tabernacle United Methodist and later Highland Park United Methodist Church. Emily never shied from a challenge and was a constant model of a servant of Christ, dedicating most of her time to witnessing and mentoring those served by Herring House a program very dear to her.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rick Hinderliter on January 30, 2015. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Gary Edenburn of New Braunfels, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Aron Hinderliter of Dothan, Alabama; six grandchildren, Aaron Benjamin Edenburn, Hannah Frances Edenburn, Lauren McKay Edenburn, Hensley Rhinehart Hinderliter, Richard Steven Hinderliter, II and Kirsten Faye Hinderliter; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Smith of Pensacola, Florida and Michele Hinderliter of Pinedale, Wyoming; two uncles, Tom and Jackie Rhinehart of Rome, Georgia and Dick (Richard) and Glenda Rhinehart of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.


The family wishes to especially thank Phyllis Willis, NP and Dr. Melanie Nichols, as well as the CCU staff at SAMC for their compassion and support this past week.
