Obituary from Holman Funeral Home and Cremations – Ozark, AL


 Mrs. Jeanette Head Carr, 94, of Ozark, died Monday, August 21, 2017 in Rome, Georgia, following a brief illness.  Funeral services will be 1:00 P. M. Saturday, September 2, 2017, at The First United Methodist Church in Ozark with Reverend R. Michael Sigler and Reverend Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Saturday morning, September 2, 2017, from 9:00 A. M. until 11:00 A. M.


Mrs. Carr was born February 11, 1923 in Ozark, Alabama to the late Willie Chester Head, Sr. and Bonnie Lou Curenton Head. Following graduation from Dale County High School in 1940 she attended business college in Montgomery, Alabama. In 1943 she joined the US Postal Service at Camp Rucker, Alabama and later moved to the Finance and Accounting Division.  She transferred to Eglin Air Force Base, Florida when Camp Rucker closed on two occasions. Her latter career was spent at Fort Rucker in the office of the Directorate of Resources Management in the Programs Review and Analysis Division. She retired from government service at Fort Rucker in 1985 with 36 years of service. Since January 2017 Mrs. Carr had lived in Rome, Georgia at Brookdale Senior Living so she could be closer to her family. 


Mrs. Carr was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ozark and the John Wesley Sunday School Class.  She enjoyed her family, playing bridge, working crossword puzzles, eating out with the Birthday Club, traveling with the Ozark “Fun and Frolic” group, and watching Braves baseball, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy on television.  She was known to all as a very sweet, kind, generous, and considerate lady, and a very special mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard Freeman Carr; one sister, Barbara Lou Cotter; and three brothers, Willie Chester Head, Jr., Lester Curt Head, and Frank Curenton Head, Sr. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, David F. and Betty Chambers Carr; a daughter-in-law Patricia Carr; four grandchildren, Beth Paul, Michael Carr (Annie), Jason Carr (Jessica), and Tralynn Stevenson (Eric); ten great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Memorials may be made in her memory to the First United Methodist Church of Ozark, 167 East Broad Street, Ozark, Alabama 36360; or to a ministry of your choosing.
