EDWIN COMMUNITY. . .Olen Rhymes, a resident of the Edwin Community of Henry County, died Thursday, January 18, 2018, in the Raulerson Hospital in Okeechobee, Florida. He was 89.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 21, 2018, in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery with Sister Barbara Cross and Reverend Clyde Hancock, Jr. officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary.
Mr. Rhymes was born in Avon Park, Florida and was reared in Ft. Kissimmee, Florida, son of the late Cab Calvert Rhymes and Dora Lee Thomas Rhymes. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War era. Mr. Rhymes formerly owned and operated Lakeport Grocery in Lakeport, Florida. After moving to Alabama, he was engaged in cattle farming. Mr.Rhymes was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jean Brown Rhymes, a sister and four brothers.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Vickie Barnette (Earl), Eufaula; two sons, Chuck Rhymes, Lakeport, FL; and Timmy Rhymes (Bonnie), Moore Haven, FL; a sister, Edith Swearington, St. Petersburg, FL; and a brother, Herman Rhymes, Okeechobee, FL; eight grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren.
