Rev. Edwin J. Wiginton of Samson passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016.  He was 88.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at the New Prospect Baptist Church with Rev. Elbert Smith and Rev. Billy Williams officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Samson on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Rev. Wiginton was born in Marion County, AL on October 27, 1927, to the late Valley A. Wiginton and Lois Etta Clark Wiginton.   He owned and operated restaurants in the Hamilton, AL and Samson, AL areas for many years.  Rev. Wiginton also pastored many churches during his lifetime.  He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, where he pastored for a short term in 1968.  He served his country in the US Army during WWII.  Rev. Wiginton was also a member of Masonic Lodge 624. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jennifer Bowdin; two brothers, I.J. Wiginton and Billy Joe Wiginton; and five sisters, Eva Dell Fikes, Lora Bell Burrow, Varnell McCowan, Janice Wiginton and Jessie Prestrige.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Corine Wiginton; daughter, Charlotte Wright (Forrest); son, Gary Wiginton (Lisa); four grandchildren, Sandy Morris (Jim), Cristie Stephenson (David), all of Samson, Chad Wiginton (April) of Opp, and Sierra Price (Jack) of Enterprise; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Stephenson, Brieanna Stephenson, Cassie Lynn Morris, Braden Rasnek, and Ty Wiginton; and sister, Evelyn Duke (Jackie).
