Reverend Charles Theo Kerby, of Newton, died Wednesday, April 11, 2018. He was 88 years old.


Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Saturday, April 14, 2018, from Newton Baptist Church with Reverend Benjamin Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Newton City Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends Saturday in the church from 12:30 P. M. until service time.


Reverend Kerby was born May 17, 1929 in Decatur, Alabama to the late Theo L. Kerby and Lois Lester Kerby. He served the Lord faithfully in several churches in Florida, Louisiana, and Alabama.  Reverend Kerby retired following fifty-five years with The Southern Baptist Association. He also was an instructor in Ethics and World Religion with the Alabama Aviation and Technical College in Ozark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Evelyn Jones Kerby; one sister, Alice Anne Woodard; and two brothers, William E. Kerby and Jimmy Kerby.


Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Keef Pettis of Eufaula, Dawn and Mark Knotts of Troy; one son, Charles David Kerby of Dothan; four grandchildren, Ragan Knotts, Ridge Knotts, Steven Boydstun, and Lauren Boydstun.


The family would like to thank the staff of Westside Terrace for their care and compassion shown for the past five and one-half years.
