DOTHAN. . .Reverend William Earl Bridges, a resident of Dothan, died Saturday afternoon, February 18, 2017, at his home. He was 85.


            Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 25, 2017, in the Denton Road United Methodist Church with Reverend Phil Craddock, Reverend John H. Baxter, and Reverend Paul McVay officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland &Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Denton Road United Methodist Church, 2410 Denton Road, Dothan, AL 36303.
            Reverend Earl Bridges was a native of Houston County and was reared in Henry County, between Headland & Webb. He was the son of the late John Edward Bridges and Bessie Lee Raybon Bridges.  Reverend Bridges attended Wallace Community College, Dothan, and Emory University, Atlanta. Reverend Bridges entered the United Methodist Church Ministry in 1963 and Pastored the following churches: Winslette Chapel, Mt. Hebron, Ariton, Pleasant Ridge, Uriah Charge, Curtis Memorial (now Denton Road), East Brewton, Westside in Geneva, Christ United Methodist in Milton, FL, and St. Andrew in Pensacola. He served six years as Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church in Montgomery where he retired in 1997. Reverend Bridges also supplied Columbia United Methodist Church and Big Creek United Methodist Church after his retirement.  Reverend Bridges was as an Elder in the United Methodist Church of the Alabama-West Florida Conference. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cora Lee Cook (Kay) Bridges and a sister, Betty Jean Bridges Woodham.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Marinell Watford Bridges; a daughter, Judy Bridges Michel (Michael), Birmingham; two sons, Gary Earl Bridges (Jane); and Tony Alan Bridges (Beth), all of Montgomery; sister-in-law,  Martha Jones (Walter); eight grandchildren, Hannah Bridges, Caleb Bridges, Meggie Bridges, Claire Bridges, Jared Bridges, Jordan Bridges, Sara Kay Bridges and Max Michel; a great-grandson, Oliver Bridges; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Joey Watford.


             Serving as active pallbearers will be Caleb Bridges, Max Michel, Joey Watford, Mike Douglas, Keith Douglas, and Doug Agerton. Honorary pallbearers will be United Methodist Ministers.
