Robert Earl “Bear” Davis, of Dothan, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 71.


Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Friday, December 29, 2017 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or donations can be made to SARCOA.


Robert was born on December 28, 1945 in Columbia, Alabama where he lived most of his life and attended Houston County School. Following high school, he was employed with Howell Plywood Mill, he would later work with Speigner Concrete, Hathcock Lumber, and worked for over 20 years with Michelin prior to his retirement in 1997. Robert and his wife, Janice owned and operated J and R Auction in Malvern for several years. He enjoyed attending yard sales, auctions, and was a horse trader at heart. Robert was a people person, he never met a stranger, and loved to talk to people. Robert was casual, very laid back, and was “a good man”. He will forever be missed by all who knew him.


Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Marrell and Ethel Davis, his brothers, Willie J. Davis, Tom Davis, Thuril Davis, and Billy Davis.


Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Janice Yeomans Davis; his 3 daughters, Jawana (Mike) Stewart, Janese (David) Patterson, and Crystal (Paul) Dawson; his grandchildren who called him PawPaw, Mistee (Bryan) Parker, Candice White, J.P. (Hannah) Patterson, Jacob (Caitlin) Patterson, Spencer Stewart, Ashley Hall, and Calen Santos; by his great-grandchildren who called him PawPaw and Big PawPaw, Hannah, Arianah, Ellis, Bryar, Amiah, Wyatt, Jameson, and Elliette; his 3 brothers, Johnny Davis, Arthur Davis, and Don Davis; his 2 sisters, Mary Lou Ivey and Patricia Davis; several nieces and nephews, whom he loved so very much, also survive.
