Robert Milton "Bob" Elert, a resident of Dothan, AL, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at a local hospital. He was 77.


Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 11-12:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.


Mr. Elert was born on January 14, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan and lived the early part of his life there. He joined the U.S. Army and served for 3 years. He was employed as an engineer for over 30 years as an aerospace engineer and worked with Chrysler as well at Gulf Stream, Textron, Sikorsky, GKN Aerospace, and Cessna aircraft retiring in 2008. Mr. Elert loved working in his yards; cutting grass, watering, and maintaining his yard. He was of the Catholic Faith and was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Virginia Elert, and his brothers, John and Thomas Elert.


Survivors include his wife, Nell V. Elert; his sons, Ronald (Shahna) Elert and Robert Elert; a daughter, Dawn (Jeff) Groover; grandchildren, Logan Groover, Lauren Groover, and Riggs Elert; a brother, Charles Elert; several nieces and nephews.
