ABBEVILLE. . . Shelby Gene Skinner, a resident of Abbeville, died late Monday afternoon, March 5, 2018, in a Dothan hospital. He was 81.


            Memorial services will be held at a later date.


            Mr. Skinner was born and reared in Geneva County, son of the late Oscar William “Pete” Skinner and Edith Brunette Hatcher Skinner. He was a graduate of Slocomb High School and served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Skinner was a retired building contractor and built many homes in the Dothan area and Burnsville, NC. He lived in Dothan, the Camp Springs Community of Henry County and Burnsville, NC before moving to the Union Community, near Abbeville in 2000.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Patti Hollis Skinner, Abbeville; five sisters, Florene Thurman (J.C.), Willa Dean Dukes, Patricia Womack (Allen), Sara McCallister (Joe), and Linda Bush (Danny), all of Dothan; numerous nieces and nephews.
