WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA…Thomas Lavon “Tommy” Helms, Jr., a resident of Winter Springs, Florida and former resident of Abbeville, Alabama, died Wednesday afternoon, December 19, 2018, in an Oviedo, Florida hospital. He was 61.


     Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. (CST) Saturday, December 22, 2018, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Mickey Skinner officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM Saturday in the chapel.


     Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.


     Mr. Helms was born in Great Falls, Montana on September 26, 1957. He served his country in the United States Air Force and retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant after twenty-three years of service. Mr. Helms was employed by Microsoft Corporation as an Exchange Engineer. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sara Stephanie Helms, his father, Thomas Lavon Helms, Sr., and his mother, Caroline Gachet Helms Granberry.


     Surviving relatives include his wife, Sara O. Helms, Winter Springs, FL; his daughter, Bleixen Samudio, Panama City, Panama; his son, Sixto Samudio (Katie); a sister, Charlotte Strickland, Panama City, FL; two grandchildren, Ezzar Samudio and Jonah Samudio.
