Mr. Wayne G. Goggans of Enterprise passed away on July 3, 2016.  He was 79.

 

Graveside funeral services with full military honors will be held at 1:00 EST Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia with Minister Jim Hopkins officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory directing.  The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Enterprise from 4 – 6 pm Friday, July 8, 2016.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the National Parkinson Foundation (www.parkinson.org) or the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation (www.michaeljfox.org).

 

Mr. Goggans was born March 4, 1937, in Atlanta, Georgia.  He attended Sylvan Hills Elementary and Sylvan Hills High in Atlanta.  After earning a Master’s degree from Sanford University and UCLA, he taught music appreciation at Walter F. George high school in Atlanta.

 

The three things that were most important to Wayne were his family; his music, both playing the trombone with the Atlanta Symphony and Atlanta Pops and teaching it; and his military career.  After serving 2 years in the United States Navy, he later retired as a Major from the Army after serving for 25 years, 7 months.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Watson and Jewel Scarbrough Goggans, and his sister, Carolyn G. Webb.

 

Survivors include his wife, Carol L. Sizler Goggans of Enterprise; daughter, Tara Carolyn Goggans; son, W. Garrett Goggans, wife Noel, sons Braeden and Parker; first cousin, Barbara Goggans Waldrop of Forsythe, GA and her daughters, Wanda Goggans and Anna Heath.
