ECHO COMMUNITY. . .William Sherman “Billy” Blankenship, a resident of the Echo Community of Dale County, died Saturday afternoon, October 14, 2017, at his home. He was 74.


            Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Tuesday, October 17, 2017, in the Holman Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Mark Brantley and Reverend Terriel Andrews officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:30 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary in Abbeville.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wesley Chapel Community Church, c/o John William Bell, 8510 County Road 54, Skipperville, AL 36374.


            Mr. Blankenship was born and reared in the Echo Community, son of the late Amos Easton Blankenship and Hattie Barefield Blankenship. He was a member of the Wesley Chapel Community Church. Mr. Blankenship was formerly employed by Ansell, Inc. of Dothan for many years. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Marvette Blankenship.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Gloria Palmer Blankenship; a daughter, Kelley White, Slocomb; a son, William Sherman “Bill” Blankenship, Jr. (Anna), Roseville, CA; a sister, Nell Miles, Columbus, GA; four grandchildren, Vida Jones (Matt), Grayson White, Arianna Blankenship and Alina Blankenship; a great-grandchild, Zoey Jones; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from the Palmer family.
