Mrs. Willie Mae Andrews Hughes of Florala, AL passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016. She was 84.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016 in the Chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Robert Gene Beard officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity or church.  


Mrs. Hughes was born in Montgomery, AL on March 23, 1932 to the late William Henry and Annie Belle Vinson Andrews. She was fantastic cook, especially known for her red velvet cakes and divinity candy. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and she will be deeply missed. She was of the Baptist faith.


 In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Parks; son-in-law, Lewis Stricklin.


She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Harold Talmadge “Bud” Hughes of Florala, AL; two daughters, Pat Stricklin of Gulf Shores, AL, and Sandra G. Beard (Robert Gene) of Geneva, AL; one sister, Mary Belle Hobbs of Green Cove Springs, FL; four grandchildren, Kip Stricklin (Krystie) of Gulf Shores, AL, Kimberly Thomas (Pete) of Gulf Shores, AL, Lacey Beard and Blake Mixon of Geneva, AL, and Kacey Brooks (Jerrad) of Montgomery, AL; four great-grandchildren, Kylie, Avery, and Jacob Stricklin all of Gulf Shores, AL, and Landon Mixon of Geneva, AL; her special friends and caregivers, Debra Hughes and DeWayne Brooks all  of Florala, AL; her beloved cat, Otis; and a number of nieces and nephews.


Serving as pallbearers will be: Kip Stricklin, Pete Thomas, Blake Mixon, Jerrad Brooks, Jacob Hughes, David Danley, DeWayne Brooks, and Jonathan Richter.
