BERTHA COMMUNITY… Winifred Martin Grantham, a resident of the Bertha Community of Dale County, died Wednesday morning, January 3, 2018, at her home. She was 94.

            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 5, 2018, in the New Hope Baptist Church with Reverend Jud Waldrop and Reverend Shane Traylor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Friday in the church sanctuary.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Nancy Gast, 6349 County Road 67, North, Skipperville, AL 36374.

            Mrs. Grantham was a lifelong resident of the Bertha Community, daughter of the late Lonnie Dee Martin and Flossie Mae Barefield Martin.  She was retired from WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville after twenty eight years of employment. Mrs. Grantham was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she was active in the Women’s Missionary Union and the church choir and was also a member of the Clopton Home and Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Franklin Grantham; five sisters, Lonnis Martin, Meriam Snell, Lydia Parker, Corene Griggs, and Ruby Smith; three brothers, J.D. Martin, Wade Martin and Bill Martin.

            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Myra O’Byrne and Mary Grantham, both of Bertha; a sister, Helen Riley, Echo; two grandchildren, Terry Parker and Leo O’Byrne (Shannon); four great grandchildren, Matthew Joyner (Amber), William Joyner, Micah Parker, and Sydney O’Byrne; two great-great grandchildren, Maddox and Emma Joyner.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Billy Baker, Larry Baker, Danny Martin, Matthew Joyner, William Joyner and Micah Parker.

            The family would like to express their appreciation to Community Hospice of Dale Medical Center for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Grantham during her illness.
