Winnie Owens, age 84 of Cottonwood, entered into Sunset on Friday, February 2, 2018 at her home under the care of Alacare Hospice following an extended illness.


Graveside services for Winnie Owens will be held at 2pm on Monday, February 5, 2018 in the Cottonwood City Cemetery with Chris Whaley officiating and Family First Funeral Care directing. Flowers will be accepted or contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.


Sunrise for Winnie was October 11, 1933 to the late W.C. Davis and Thelma Edwards Davis in Pansey. She later moved to Cottonwood and graduated from Cottonwood High School. For many years she worked at Wex-Tex and was a homemaker. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. Winnie was of the Assembly of God faith.


In addition to her parents, Winnie is preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Nelson and a grandson, Jonathan Kimbrel. Survivors include 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Sharon (Gene) Kimbrel of Cottonwood and Buffie Owens of Dothan; one brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Margie Davis of Dothan; three grandchildren, Colby Edmondson, Jeremy Owens and Jalen Whaley and a special great-granddaughter, Shelby Sumlar.
