Rehobeth Elementary School is disciplining first graders for using the bathroom out of designated bathroom times. First of all, let me tell you that not all teachers have established this rule in their classrooms. Unfortunately, my child's teacher has. I was not informed of these procedures by the school, but was told by my child after an upset tummy one morning. I have spoken to the principal, and he is not going to ask the teacher to change her bathroom discipline rules. Here is what happens: If a child has to go to the bathroom during a non-designated bathroom time, they move their name down on a conduct board. This ultimately could affect their conduct grade. (Yes, you read that right... a child's conduct grade can possibly be affected by their need to go to the bathroom) I was upset, and still am, that the school has not properly informed me of any and all reasons that my child is disciplined at school. I feel it is only just that I notify other parents.

old or young- if you gotta go you gotta go- or do it in the floor or your pants. then you gotta clean them up. just let them go to the rest room and save a lotta crap. think it over.

Shame on this teacher on the principal that is letting it happen. I did not like the county schools when my son attended and still don't. Not only are the teachers and principal for the superintendent, and the school board as well. Does you no good at all to call them because they don't handle matters like they should. I have always said the superintendent needs to go and should have years ago. That's all right were are the ones to vote him in and out.

Why Should a kid feel embarrassed or ashamed to have to use the bathroom? What kind of a world do we live in

i dnt think kids should feel bad or move there name down because they have to go at a certain time. these kids are young and u cant make a child use the bathroom at a certain time if they dnt have too. U try going on a set schedule cause ur boss told u too. teachers excuse themselves all the time during class. humm maybe we should deduct your pay everytime they went. All im saying is children caame to learn, if they have to go let them go.

I just joined. Reading this article, I wonder if this school system is going to pay for medical treatment when the student sees thier doctor for a uniary track infection, bladder infections, The longer you hold your urine, the bladder can become a breeding ground for bacteria to grow. Is the school willing to take this risk?

After verifying with several teachers at Rehobeth, it is to my understanding that though the child moves his/her name down the conduct ladder, it does not affect their actual conduct grade. Teachers have provided schedules as to when they take their class as a whole to the restroom it has come up to over five times a day. I don't know about your child but the average normal child does not need to go every five minutes. In cases of emergencies those children are allowed to go. They are not signaled out and embarrassed. If you wish to state an opinion about a school, please verify all the facts before you post and make a teacher sound inhumane. I'm pretty sure that teacher's feelings were hurt and I know I would want to collaborate with my child's teacher without any animosity.

When I read this article I was horrified. I have shared this story on my facebook and I will be starting a petition to get this changed. This is not a good way to treat children. You can only hold the human body for so long so who are these officials to try and control this. Then there are children who have digestive problems so are they going to give them a bad grade because of a problem that they are having? This is beyond wrong.

I have read your post and I believe every word that you wrote. I took my child out of Wicksburg, along with some other's, because, of the two-faced principal out there, that, has her nose up the superintendent's, well, you know.... And , because, of the situation last year with the student and the two aides. How in the world Cheryl Smith is still out there as principal is beyond me... I just hope all comes out about her... Wicksburg and Rehobeth used to be , and, I said, USED to be the top schools in the county, but, because of their, so called, adult leaders, are now at the bottom, all, because, of the faculty. It looks like, to me, a new superintendent needs to be voted in, and, then, he needs to take his clipboard and visit these two schools and CLEAN HOUSE.Alot does go on...
