GENEVA COUNTY:     07:31 AM     We begin this asking for sincere prayer for the victims of the accident last evening in Geneva County which was located on Alabama 167 and South County Road 9 in Geneva County. We ask in your prayers to include their families.

We also ask for your sincere prayers for all of those who responded to the accident scene, being the Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, Scene Commander, Coroner, hospital staff.

This was a terrible scene. And one where I will not post the scene picture because the damage to the vehicle is one of the worse that I have seen.

PRESS RELEASE GENEVA COUNTY CORONER DONNY ATKINSON

Geneva County Coroner Donny Atkinson release a press release this morning. Tiffany Cobb, age 26, was pronounced dead on the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Alabama State 167 near the Alabama Florida line.

ACCIDENT INFORMATION

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, Geneva County 911 dispatched Hartford Rescue and Black Volunteer Fire Department to a two vehicle accident on Alabama 167 and South County Road 9. Slocomb Fire Operations Chief Brandon Hovey had just cleared a accident scene on Sounth County Road 9 and County Road 4, which meant he was about 2 miles from the scene. So Slocomb Operations Chief Brandon Hovey responded as well.

At the time of the dispatch, Geneva County 911 reported to those dispatched there were three peoople trapped and CPR was in progress of a child.

Slocomb Fire - Rescue and Fadette Volunteer Fire were requested to be mutual aid dispatched to the accident along with two medical helicopters be dispatched.

Slocomb Fire Operations Chief Brandon Hovey was on the scene within 5 minutes of the call being dispatched as was Esto Volunteer Fire Department, both arriving at about the same time.

On arrival the emergency responders found two pickup truck with major damage and major entrappment. Slocomb Operations Commander Brandon Hovey, being the first Alabama agency to arrive, assumed Scene Command.

Chief Hovey and Esto Volunteer Fire found two people heavily entrapped, two children in critical condition, two other patients injured. Chief Hovey called a Mass Casulty incident due to resources being overwhelmed.

Holmes County Emergency Medical Services were requested to respond along with four medical helicopters were requested to respond.

The extensive extrication process was intiated by Slocomb Fire - Rescue and Esto Volunteer Fire Department.

The first arriving EMS transport unit, Hartford Rescue and a Slocomb firefighter did what is called a "load and go" where they did a rapid load the patient, the child who CPR was being performed, and emergency transport to Flowers Hospital in Dothan.

Slocomb Operations Chief Hovey began the medical treatment of the other critical injured child and attempting to run Command, something rural departments have to do because of limited resources and people.

Holmes County EMS arrived and did a second "load and go" of rapid load a critical patient and emergency transport.

One patient, identified above, was determined dead on the scene following the extensive extrication. Geneva County Coroner Donny Adkinson notified and responded to the scene.

Walton County Florida air transport landed on the scene. Walton County Air transport loaded a critically injured child and went airborne to Pensacola Florida hospital.

Air Heart 2 loaded a critically injured patient and went airborne transporting to Southeast Health in Dothan.

Haynes Ambulance Helicopter and Survival Flight 21 out of Blountstown were cancelled due to the rapid load and go transports of ground ambulances.

Departments which responded: Hartford Fire - Rescue, Slocomb Fire - Rescue, Black Volunteer Fire Department, Fadette Volunteer Fire Department, Malvern Volunteer Fire Department, Esto Volunteer Fire Department, Holmes County EMS, Holmes County Sheriff Department, Geneva County Sheriff Department, ALEA - Troopers, Geneva County Coroner, Walton County Florida Air Rescue, AirHeart 2, Haynes Life Flight, and Survival Flight 21 from Blountstown.

Enterprise Rescue two medical aircraft and Survival Flight from Headland were already on flight missions when this call came in.

Ladies and Gentleman, the East Geneva County agencies, faced with a major, major, mass casualty incident, all responded to the scene. Some being dispatched and some hearing the radio traffic and responded when they realized this was a major incident. All of the emergency responders worked like a well oiled machine doing all possible to save the lives of those involved.

Which understand, none of the emergency responders, doctors, or anyone there makes those final decisions. All they can do is slug it out with the training and tools they have.

Thanks to the Geneva County 911 dispatcher faced with getting everyone responding and coordination of the requests of the on scene commander and units. The voice on the phone and radio that no one sees, they only hear.

After everything was handled and cleared, all involved shed tears, was emotional, knew some of the people involved. During the situation all emotions were held and all handled all of the tasks at hand.

After a sleepless night, the responders tears, all are ready for the 911 call that has not happened yet. For if they do not do it, then who will? They are called to serve and use their training to work to save lives and property.

At this time RSN does not know the condition of the patients transported to the different hospitals.

To Holmes County Sheriff Deputies where state lines and county lines are for politicians and not for emergencies and their willingness to cross that line in order to work with others to save lives. To Geneva County Sheriff Deputies who responded, to the ALEA - Troopers who responded and who were charged with investigating this horrible traffic accident. To the Geneva County Coroner with the task of handling the deceased on the scene. THANK YOU. To the ALEA Communications Officer on duty and the handling of ALEA radio traffic, THANK YOU.

And to each of you who take time from your day and lift everyone involved, who when the scene was over, ask themselves WHY DO I DO THIS? Because this scene was a horrible scene they were faced with.

But it is who they are, in their DNA to serve others above themselves.
