DOTHAN:     Houston Academy senior Jadyn Rausch officially signed to play softball at Southern Miss. The ceremony was this last Wednesday at Houston Academy.


The standout shortstop had an impressive junior season, hitting .383 with 5 home runs and 57 RBIs. She helped lead the Lady Raiders to a 43-5 record and a third-place finish in the Class 3A State Tournament.


Rausch says her focus for her senior year is leaving a legacy and pushing the team as far as possible for the next generation of players.


“I really stand by the ‘we over me’ mentality every day. I’m not working for myself—I’m working for my team,” said Rausch. “If I’m not motivated one day, I need to be disciplined and work for them. I know what it feels like to go home without a map. I mean, the red ones suck, but I also know what it feels like to go home with the blue ones, so I continue to work day in and day out so others can experience that, not just me. We have new people on our team, and they need that feeling. It’s the best feeling in the world.”


Rausch says she was signed as a utility player to play shortstop or catcher, but she will do whatever it takes to play on day one.
