HOUSTON COUNTY, 11:30 A.M.—Local Amendment 1, which would have given the power of direct appointments of the healthcare authority to the county commission, was handily rejected by Houston County voters on Election Day.
Southeast Health expressed thanks to voters for rejecting the measure.
"We don't take or granted the trust voters have instilled in Southeast Health when it comes to appointing members to the Houston County Health Care Authority," Southeast Health said. "The outcome of the vote will allow the Authority to continue following the 1982 Alabama Health Care Authorities Act and ensure the check and balance process remains in place. We will also continue to work with the Houston County Commission to vet quality individuals for appointment to the hospital board."
Of all polling places reporting, only the total of absentee ballots voted in favor of the measure—by 49 votes.
Every other individual polling place in Houston County tallied more "no" votes.
