DOTHAN:    Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams, Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba, members of Dothan Commission and the men and women of Dothan Fire Department came together for the ribbon cutting and opening of Dothan Fire Station Number 10.

Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams also welcomed retired Dothan Fire Chief Buford Fortson and retired Dothan Fire Chief Samuel Crawford who were in attendance for the ribbon cutting.

Chief Williams described the adventure for Dothan Fire Station Number 10 that was initiated in 2008. Under the leadership of then Dothan Mayor Pat Thomas and then Dothan Commissioner Jason Rudd the land was purchased on West Main Street at Roosevelt.

The plans continued through Mayor Pat Thomas, Mayor Mike Schmitz and Mayor Mark Saliba and the respective Commissioners, under then Dothan City Manager Mike West and ground broke under then Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper.

Dothan Fire Station Number 10 is a state of the art facility with a brand new Dothan Fire Engine.

Dothan has a ISO rating of number 1, which is the best you can get. This ISO rating saves the citizens of Dothan money on insurance premiums.

The station was dedicated through prayer from the Associate Pastor of Dothan's First United Methodist Church.

CONGRATULATIONS to all involved.

Dothan Fire Station Number 3, Westgate, will be moving the near future. The current station is on Westgate Parkway. Construction is under way on Whatley Drive for the relocation of the Westgate Station.

Today was a great example of the importance of all emergency responders and the Dothan Fire Stations. While multiple Dothan Fire Engines, Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams, Dothan Fire Deputy Chief David Hasty were all at the Third Avenue and Ross Clark Circle, a fire alarm came in at Healthsouth on East Main Street. Dothan Fire was there before 6 AM and a call quickly followed the alarm to Dothan 911 the system was malfunctioning.

But emergencies do not make appointments. And today could have been two major fires at the same time.

THIS MORNING ... major apartment fire in Enterprise, major commercial structure fire in Dothan, a armed robbery or commercial burglary in Dothan while structure fire underway, a major search in Henry County for missing person on water, medical call in Southern Junction, medical alarm in Cowarts, EMS Service call in Wicksburg, medical emergency at Lake Eufaula, several medical calls in Enterprise... all going on about the same time.

So THANK YOU to former Mayor Pat Thomas and other Mayors and City Manager, Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams, for looking into the future and being proactive.
