11:35 AM Child From Saturday Geneva County Accident Passes Away

GENEVA COUNTY:    It was Saturday night when Geneva County 911 dispatched a two vehicle accident on Alabama Highway 167 near the Geneva County Road 9 intersection and the Alabama - Florida line.

Today Geneva County Coroner Donny Adkinson confirmed the death of a six year old child who passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital.

The child is identified as 6 year old Rylan Cobb. The Rylan is the daughter of Tiffany Cobb who was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident.

The father of the child and husband of Mrs. Cobb and a four year old child remain listed in critical condition. Their 10 month old child was in the vehicle at the time of the accident but the condition of the child is unknown.

PLEASE PRAY for this family. The injured and the extended family.

Imagine the devestation of the accident, but also the turmoil of the family - where do you begin? One of your loved ones is deceased on the scene, so do you go to the scene? One six year old child is flown to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola Florida.

The dad/husband is at Southeast Health in Dothan. And one child is at Flowers Hospital and as I understand was later flown to Children's Hospital in Birmingham. And not sure where the 10 month old child is located.

So as family, where do you go, where do you start, and who goes where?

And PLEASE PRAY for the 911 dispatchers, the fire, EMS, law enforcement and hospital staff. They were faced in a rural setting, with a horrific scene. On arrival CPR underway by bystanders of a child, two entrapped, emergency units rolling from multiple areas.

THANKFULLY the emergency responders are not like politicians - the county lines and state lines do not matter when time to work to save lives. Holmes County Florida EMS and Sheriff Department crossed into Alabama to assist. ESTO Volunteer Fire Department crossed into Alabama to assist. Geneva County Sheriff Department on the scene, Black Volunteer Fire Department, Hartford Fire - Rescue, Slocomb Fire - Rescue, ALEA - Troopers, Geneva County Coroner. Four helicopters responded to the scene.

As someone who has walked in the shoes of the emergency responders, scenes such as this one are very devestating. And this was very devestating to the men and women on the scene and in the Geneva County 911 Center. First the scene, but also some of the responders were friends with the people in the wreck.

Several gathered Sunday and ate to discuss with each other their thoughts and feelings, and talk things out. But I personally know some left the scene and when they got home were very emotional shedding tears over the tragedy. It is thoughts that will never leave your mind. They are brave and keep it together to handle the emergency and do all within their power. But when it is over the reality sinks in.

So Please keep the ones injured in your prayers, the medical staff treating them in your prayers, but also the men and women who give of their time to respond and act in the emergencies.

Also remember, your County Commissioners got a law passed where they are not responsible for EMS in the county. So remember how your County Commissioners feel about life.

ALEA - Troopers are conducting a Traffic  Homicide Investigation which is normal when there are fatalities that are not the drivers. That does not mean criminal charges, just means a detailed investigation. So you will see ALEA Troopers on the accident scene still gathering data.
