12:32 UPDATE: Dothan officer withdraws appeal for job amid drug activity allegations

DOTHAN—Dothan Police officer Jeremy Wallace withdrew an appeal for his job after he was fired amid allegations of drug activity—but criminal charges could follow.

The officer was allegedly aware of drug activity in the area but did not intervene, according to Dothan Police.

As soon as administrative motions are complete, Dothan Police said criminal charges could be possible for the officer, along with charges of dereliction of duty and conduct unbecoming of an officer.

12:32 UPDATE: According to a press release, on September 11, 2024, a citizen reported unusual activity by a Dothan Police officer from outside Houston County. The officer was in uniform and using a marked police vehicle. 

An investigation revealed Wallace had engaged in conduct unbecoming of a Dothan Police officer and dereliction of duty, and he was terminated. Wallace appealed the decision, but withdrew his appeal.

"The actions of this former officer fall well short of the expectations the citizens of the City of Dothan and I have for those wearing the Dothan Police Department uniform and will not be tolerated," a statement from Dothan Police Chief Will Benny said. "Officers who take actions that are contrary to the law will be held accountable according to City of Dothan Personnel Rules and Regulations as well as applicable law."
