HOUSTON COUNTY:    On October 4, 2024 Kevin Saffold, age 57, was transported from the Alabama Department of Corrections prison to the Houston County Jail.

Saffold is scheduled for a hearing before 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge John John Steensland.

Kevin Saffold was arrested by Dothan Police on or about March 19, 2019. He was charged with Theft of Property in the amount of $ 2,175.00 and two counts of Financial Exploition of the Elderly.

Court records indicate that Saffold appeared to have entered a guilty plea to the Theft of Propery charge on or about August 25, 2022. Saffold was sentenced to 12 months.

Court records indicate the two Financial Exploitation of the Elderly charges that Saffold was accused of $ 30,846.24 for a BMW, and $ 5,750.00 for dental work.

Saffold represented himself in a jury trial. Judge Steensland ordered a Dothan attorney to sit with Saffold during the trial.

On August 31, 2022 a Houston County jury of 12 convicted Saffold on the two counts of Financial Exploitation of Elderly. While pending sentencing an alleged incident occurred in the Houston County Courthouse. Houston County Sheriff Vice Deputy Hall arrested Kevin Saffold for Disorderly Conduct alleged to have been committed in the courthouse. This was on December 1, 2022.

Alias Warrants of arrest were ordered and bonds revoked on arrest and a no bond set. On December 8, 2022 Saffold was arrested and placed in the Houston County Jail.

On January 18, 2023, now convicted of the two counts of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly, Kevin Saffold stood before 20 Judicial Circuit Court Judge John John Steensland who sentenced Saffold to 25 years on each offense. Saffold was later sent to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

The first step in an appeal is a Motion For New Trial which was denied. Saffold then appealed to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals.

The Court Reporter in Kevin Saffold's trial was diagnosed with severe health conditions in September 2022. After a vicious health battle, on July 25, 2023 the court reporter in Saffolds case passed away.

Another court reporter was appointed. The original court reporter computer, which contained the transcripts encountered problems. The laptop was sent to computer specialist which determined a "hard drive crash". The court reporter was unable to provide the court transcripts of the original trial.

Several more court filings to include Saffold wanting to be transferred from the Alabama Department of Corrections prison to Houston County Community Corrections.

Saffold is now back in Houston County only for a status hearing before 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge John John Steensland scheduled for October 9, 2024 at 9:00 AM.
