DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY: Until the drama of the Houston County Commission in trying a power grab with Southeast Health, there were some things with Southeast Health I did not know. While I knew of the Southeast Health Foundation, I had never studied it.
After studying it, it convinces me even more there is no advantage to the citizens and guests of Houston County in changing the appointment process to the Southeast Health Board to where the Houston County Commissioners have the say so completely who serves on the board.
The Board listed here is not the Southeast Health Board. While some board members are on the Foundation Board, it is seperate. And a bunch of self serving, ego, power grabbing politicians do not need to be making these decisions.
Caring is a word that’s tossed around a lot in health care, perhaps so often that it loses its meaning. But to us, it never loses its true meaning. Caring is everything. It’s the heart and soul of what makes Southeast Health and the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine so special.
And thanks to the generosity and hard work of some very caring donors, we’re putting gifts in action that make our medical community better by advancing technology, programs and education. To read a personal story about one of these advancements, click here.
Does it make a difference? Can medicine work better? Can the healing take place faster? The total amount of funding support in FY2024 was $1,048,302.34.

The Foundation was founded in May 2006 as a 501 (c)(3), not-for-profit public charity governed by a volunteer board. Its purpose is to engage partners in healthcare philanthropy, leverage resources and relationships, and support programs and services designed to advance healthcare and promote wellness in the communities served by Southeast Health and its academic division, the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM).
Through financial strength, Southeast Health has met the needs of its patients since 1957. Today, the 420-bed regional referral center faces a growing demand from an aging population, declining reimbursement and rising uncompensated and charity care. Through community support, the Foundation provides equipment and technology, as well as the expansion of life-saving treatments.
Generous Foundation partners – physicians, employees, volunteers, former patients, vendors and friends of Southeast Health and ACOM – play a role in helping close the needs gaps – and the dream gaps – for a healthier way of life in the region.
