HOUSTON COUNTY:      The Houston County Commission Chairman and four voting memners of the Houston County Commission will meet in a regularly scheduled AAdministrative Meeting on Thursday, July 18, 2024.

The time will be 10:00 AM, The meeting will he held at 10:00 AM. At this meeting the items on the Administrative Meeting Agenda are "supposed" to be discussed in the public in an open meeting where the public can hear about the topic.

While the Houston County Commission says they are "transparent and accountable", the following agenda is the only material provided to the public or media. No support documentation is provided.

Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba and Associate Commissioners agenda is online and all supporting documentation is under the agenda item with a hyperlink to allow the public to read the documentation rarther than the onse sentence on the agenda.

The County Commission is set up where the Chairman is not allowed to make a motion and can only vote on a item in the event of a tie. In Houston County, there are four voting members on the Houston County Commission. Two of the four voting members are employed with the Houston County Sheriff Department and receive two paychecks from Houston County, one being as a Houston County Commissioner and one being as a Houston County Deputy Sheriff.

One Commissioner has votedfor two of the three pay raises he has received both as a Commissioner and as a Deputy. The third raise he did not vote on because of a death of an immediate family member the day of the meeting. However the Commission called and asked howhe would vote and he said would vote yes. The raises, one a 4.3% and one a 15%, the Commissioner/Deputy received in each position. Forget what the third raise amount was.
