THE SARAH ELIZABETH GOREE MEMORIAL
BOSTON BUTT AND RIB SALE
HAS ENDED AND WILL NOT BE HELD THIS YEAR
DOTHAN: The Sarah Elizabeth Goree Memorial Boston Butt Sale has been a Dothan and wiregrass tradition for the past 14 years.
Tragically, while in Dothan High School, on May 11, 2001, Sarah’s life was claimed in a traffic accident.
Sarah’s parents, Bill and Lisa Goree, her brother and sister in law, Seth and Erin Goree, wanted to do something in the community to benefit others.
As a family they selected the Southeast Children’s Advocacy Center to help raise money and support. As a family they decided to do a boston butt sale. Later they added ribs.
For 14 consecutive years, the Goree Family, joined by a host of friends, would start on Wednesday, the week before Thanksgiving, cooking the boston butts and ribs.
In the 14 consecutive years, always remember their daughter/sister/sister in law, the family and host of friends have kept the memory of Sarah Elizabeth Goree in helping children.
It is estimated the Sarah Elizabeth Goree Boston Butt and Rib Sale has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center.
Last year, as a family, the Goree’s decided it was time to call the annual sale to an end.
The wiregrass area has great memories of Sarah Elizabeth Goree. And many of people contributed in work and helping, and lines to buy the great boston butts and ribs the family cooked.
On behalf of the wiregrass and Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center, we wish to say a great THANK YOU to the Goree family for your hard work and dedication in helping others.
And we join you in remembering Sarah.
The Sarah Elizabeth Goree Memorial Boston Butt and Rib Sale has been held at Lowe's, Ross Clark Circle and HIghway 52.
You can still make donations in memory of Sarah Elizabeth Goree in contributions made directly to the Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center.
