KINSEY:      This morning Kinsey Police Chief Jim Mock was dispatched to a missing person who is reported to have dementia.

Chief Mock put out a BOLO and a Silver Alert. The man said that he was going to Lakeland Florida to see his children.

Later today, following the BOLO and Silver Alert, Houston County Sheriff 911 was called and notified someone had spotted the vehicle south bound on Montgomery Highway. Later a Houston County Sheriff Department unit spotted the vehicle going the opposite direction. The deputy was delayed in being able to turn around and lost visual of the truck.

At South Oates and Ross Clark Circle the Houston County Sheriff Deputy continued south, A Kinsey Police Officer had caught them at South Oates and Ross Clark Circle and went right, and Kinsey Police Chief Jim Mock went left from South Oates and Ross Clark Circle.

At Prevatt Road and Ross Clark Circle as Chief Mock went through the intersection he spotted the vehicle which had flip flopped around and was sitting back at Prevatt and Ross Clark Circle turning left onto Prevatt Road.

Kinsey Police Chief Mock turned around and a Houston County Sheriff Deputy was coming through the intersection of Third Avenue and Ross Clark Circle. As the man turned onto Prevatt Road the officers initiated the blue lights and pulled the man over.

It was sad that he did not know where he was at. Stated he was trying to get back to Dothan and had been in Lakeland Florida to see his kids. It was after 8:30 AM when he left home.

The family was notified and DHR Adult Services to assist the family.

Caring for dementia patients is a full time job for care givers. Even the slightest second you take your eyes off them they can slip away.

My mother passed in 2015 after being found in a pool of blood at the nursing home where she fell. About three years before her mind had slowly deteriorated and she did not know us. That has to be miserable that you do not know anyone and can not even watch TV or read a book and know what is happening. Love my mother very much but honestly felt she died three years before she died when dementia and Alzheimer’s.

So I feel for the families who have to be the care takers in these situations.

GOOD JOB to Kinsey Police Department for proactiveness in Silver Alert and BOLO.
