PIKE COUNT :On Monday, Nov. 11, at approximately 4:40 p.m., a Trooper assigned to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division attempted to stop a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup truck on US 231 near County Road 7707 in Pike County. The driver failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended when the driver crashed on Alabama 94 near the 17 mile marker in Montgomery County. After the crash, a standoff took place between the driver and law enforcement. The driver was later identified as Maxie D. Evans, 47, of Ramer.
Special Agents with ALEA State Bureau of Investigation’s (SBI), SWAT Team and Hostage Negotiation Unit, along with deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, all responded to the scene to assist. Evans, who was armed with a handgun, fired at law enforcement; however, no officers were struck or injured. Through intentional and deliberate negotiations, ALEA was able to resolve the standoff and apprehend Evans without incident.
Evans was transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment. Evans is facing a charge of Attempting to Elude, with additional pending firearm charges, and will be booked into the Pike County Jail.
Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing.
