DHCLS Discontinues Ashford Library Project

Dothan, AL - The Dothan Houston County Library System (DHCLS) Board of Trustees voted to discontinue the Ashford Library Capital Campaign and library renovation project.  The board considered a number of factors in reaching this difficult decision, including the fact that costs for the project escalated from an original budget of approximately $954,000 to over $1.6 million.

Despite the discontinuation of the project, DHCLS remains committed to serving residents through the existing Ashford Branch.  DHCLS will also continue providing bookmobile services that span all of Houston County, particularly rural areas and small towns.

Established in 1949, DHCLS today serves a population of approximately 107,000 residents through its main library, two branches, a bookmobile, and an extensive selection of ebooks and digital resources. In FY 2023, DHCLS welcomed over 312,000 visitors, and DHCLS patrons borrowed over 201,000 items, including books, audiobooks, DVDs, and ebooks.  DHCLS offers a variety of innovative services, such as the Library of Things, a Seed Library, and Story Walks at Kiwanis Park and Walton Park. The library also offers programs for children, teens, and adults, ranging from story times, craft programs, technology help, and job search assistance.

More information about DHCLS can be found at www.dhcls.org.

RSN NOTE:     The City of Dothan has two NEW Libraries, one on North Oates Street and one in Westgate Park. The help the City of Ashford has received from your D2 Houston County Commissioner - N O N E, help from your Houston County Commission Chairman Brandon Shoupe - N O N E, from your Houston County Commissioners N - O - N - E.

D2 Houston County Commissioner Tracy Adams is more concerned in roadblocks for Cowarts Mayor Randy Rowland's new ice machine and blocking entrance and exit for citizens then for a library for the community he serves, ASHFORD!!!
