DOTHAN—At the Highland Oaks Golf Course, golfers teed off to raise money for the Alabama Sheriff's Youth Ranches.
Started in 1966, the Alabama Sheriff's Youth Ranches house foster children in a Christian environment.
Presently, 64 children are housed in the ranches. Every morning starts with devotion and the Pledge of Allegiance, according to the director, Mike Smith.
In the past 12 months, 26 young people were baptized, Smith said.
"We're an Alabama charity helping Alabama children," he said. "100% of the money stays right here in Alabama."
There were 50 teams and 200 players in the tournament—raising $67,215 for the organization.
"Young people are 100% of our future," Smith said.
Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza said he was thrilled with the turnout.
"It's a very exciting feeling to know we have the support of the people in our community," Valenza said. "We're very excited the public is really supporting us."
