Today I placed this orange and blue floral arrangement at the Angel of Hope for John David “JD” Hodge, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend who was called Home by his Heavenly Father Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

JD was born in Orlando, FL on December 21, 2000.

He and his family moved to Dothan when he was 4 years old.

JD was a 2019 graduate of Providence Christian School.

He played a little bit of football and a whole lot of baseball while at Providence.

He had such a love for the game of baseball and he played with some of the best.

He was so proud to be a part of the 2016 15U World Series Championship team, and the 2019 3A State Championship team.

John David went on to study at Auburn University where he joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, forging bonds and creating memories with brothers he would call family.

After 3 years at Auburn, he decided to take time off from school and work for a year.

He stayed in Auburn and found a work family he loved and admired.

Music was his passion though, so much so that he was affectionately known as Uncle Jamz by his nieces and nephews.

He traveled across the country, attending concerts at iconic venues like Red Rocks, The Caverns, Pier 17, and The Gorge, investing every spare dime he had into experiencing live music at its finest.

His next anticipated adventure would have been to a folk concert with his sisters.

Next month was to be a trip to a concert at Fenway with one of his dearest friends.

To know JD was to know laughter.

Friends and family will remember him for his enormous heart, his incredible sense of humor, and his beautiful smile.

That infectious smile will be missed by a host of special friends and family.

John David will always be loved, missed and remembered by his loving parents, John & Sandi (Shute) Hodge of Dothan; two sisters, Anna James (Justin) of Springhill, TN, and Abby Sparkman (Daniel) of Dothan; nieces and nephews, Poppy James, Decker James, Dane Sparkman, and Kennedy Sparkman; and grandmother, Jean Shute and many devoted friends.
