DALE COUNTY—A man police say tied up and killed a Midland City woman was denied bond.
James Johnson, 29, was denied the chance to bond out of jail in Dale County after an Aniah's Law hearing. He is charged with murder.
Dale County Judge Stanley Garner said Johnson was a risk to the community and a flight risk.
Garner called the killing of 57-year-old Sherry Clark "brutal."
After a welfare check when she did not show up for work, Clark was found nude, bound, gagged and dead in her bedroom in Midland City early Sunday, according to Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum.
A preliminary autopsy revealed Clark died from blunt force trauma to the head and had cuts on her chest and genital areas. Her brain sustained significant damage after a hit to the front of her head caused a brain bleed. She was revealed to have died between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday.
Johnson claimed he and Clark knew each other and had been occasionally sexually involved in the past. Johnson had just been released from prison in Florida, and investigators found a long record of charges of burglary, theft, and drug convictions.
