NEW SMYRNA BEACH FLORIDA: Residents of New Smyrna Beach can meet the four finalists vying to be the city’s next manager and enjoy light refreshments by Flagler Tavern at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 7, in the Live Oak Cultural Center at 1050 Live Oak St.
Similar to the role a CEO plays in a corporation, a city manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations across all city departments, providing professional advice to elected officials, and executing the city’s annual budget, in addition to a host of other senior executive responsibilities.
The governing body has selected Kevin Cowper, former City Manager, Dothan Alabama as the new City Manager for New Smyrna Beach Florida.
In less than 34 days from Kevin Cowper’s last day as City Manager in Dothan, he was selected as City Manager in New Smyrna Beach Florida. They realized what he was doing in Dothan Alabama and his vision that is being implemented and quickly swept Kevin Cowper up for City Manager.
Four of Dothan Commissioners, D1-Kevin Dorsey, D2-Aristotle Kirkland, D4-John Ferguson and D5-Gnatt Pierce refused to vote in favor of giving a new contract to Kevin Cowper. Not one gave a sufficient excuse. Dorsey is reported to not renewed Kevin Cowper’s contract because he did not attend one of his district forum’s. Ever heard of other committments?
Kirkland is reported to have not renewed his contract because he did not feel enough attention had been paid to him. Ferguson said they needed someone who could execute. But Kevin Cowper raised $ 61 million non City of Dothan taxpayer funds for the renovation of downtown Dothan and have you noticed the work being done? . Ferguson has been a Commissioner for years, how much has he raised? And Gnatt Pierce was like a child who had not gotten his way in things and was not renewing the contract, according to sources.
But New Symrna Beach quickly realized Kevin Cowper’s talent and that Dothan’s loss was their gain.
CONGRATULATIONS TO MR. COWPER on his new job.
