HOUSTON COUNTY—The man who is alleged to have led Alabama Law Enforcement Troopers in two chases in two days is now in the Houston County Jail. He made his first appearance in court from the jail Friday morning.
Richard Lawade Davis, 42, is charged with two counts of attempting to elude a police officer, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.
A high-speed chase began Thursday morning before 11 a.m., when troopers attempted to pull over a vehicle traveling quickly down the wrong side of the road on Highway 84.
A female driver was holding her hands out the window, and Davis is alleged to have been steering the vehicle and pressing the gas.
The identity of the female in the driver's seat is unknown, and she was not taken into custody.
The pursuit ended when an ALEA trooper performed a pit maneuver on the vehicle, causing it to roll and finally crash on its side just outside Ashford.
ALEA said Davis may be the same person who tried to flee from ALEA on Wednesday.
