More Methodist churches in the Wiregrass have submitted lawsuits to keep their property, according to reporting from AL.com.

Elba Methodist Church in Coffee County, Pleasant Hill and Westview Heights in Dale County, and Highland Park Church in Houston County filed lawsuits on October 31 against the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church.

They argue the congregations own their property, rather than the conference, which claims to hold it in trust.

In Dothan, Harvest Church previously sued, saying they could prove its historic ownership had never been signed over in a trust clause.

The state Supreme Court sent that case back to a lower court, and it's expected to go to trial next year.
